Born with a hole in her heart and pulmonary atresia, which is a form of congenital heart disease, six year old Lydia has undergone major surgical procedures and overcome some very complex medical difficulties. At just two years of age, she was also diagnosed with Alagille syndrome, which is a rare disorder that seriously affects the liver and means that Lydia requires daily medication and may, in the future, require further surgery.
Despite the severity of her condition, Lydia had one key goal in life. “I want to be a princess,” she said, “and wear a tiara and lots of jewellery and princess shoes.”
While being dressed by designer Jenny Packham and decorated by one of Britain’s finest jewellers, Lydia ran through the list of her favourite princes and, to squeals of delight, was told that she was to meet her very own Prince Charming, who would make her fairytale complete…
This episode also features the phenomenal efforts of Kim Ballard from East London, who successfully climbed one of the highest mountains in the world for Starlight and, back in London, the charity took a group of very poorly children to Olympia, The London International Horse Show.
